It isn't so much a matter of WIndows or Norton not liking the program - it's just a firewall notification asking if you want to allow the program network access. The most likely situation is that some program on your system obtains updates or other downloads that are assisted by this client. Blocking the Akamai client might hinder future updating of whatever program may be involved. What I am wondering is why you got a Windows firewall alert if you have NIS installed. Check the Norton Firewall Programs list to see if the Akamai NetSession Client is listed and allowed (or set to Auto). Hi vedatel, I have used the Akami NetSession Client to download and install some Adobe programs on my Windows 7 computer. The path to your file is exactly the same as on my machine.

There should also be an entry in Programs and Features named Akami NetSession Interface Control Panel. If you open this, the first tab, Applications will show you which programs or applications are using the Akami NetSession Client. I only used this when downloading the original Adobe programs and do not have a need for the client to constantly run. If you wish to stop the service, open the Akami NetSession Interface Control Panel, open the Preferences tab and under service, click Stop. In my Norton Smart Firewall Program Rules, this program is marked as 'Allow'. Based upon your description, I do not think you have any issues, but I suggest looking into the Akami Control Panel to see what is using the client.
From there you can decide what is best for you. DaveH wrote: I think perhaps the user is using NAV. If thats the case then there will be no firewall or firewall settings to look for. If your not using Norton Antivirus then please let us know.
Dave Dave, i'm using NIS Norton Internet Security. I checked the windows firewall and this is what i get: i hope what that means is that the Windows firewall is up and running, and that it's being managed by NIS. If that's what it's doing, then probably i'm okay, as far as the firewall is concerned. Anyway, i don't think i'm going to use the akamai netsession client. It seems like one of those programs that aren't needed, and may even be using my computer to do things that i don't want.
